Between protecting my own family and protecting all families like me is a space of choice and discernment.

This space is becoming more and more unavoidable. A reckoning of what is a social change-maker? Is the beneficiary a family out there, like the ones I worked for in a non profit? Or is the beneficiary my own family. What are the limits of ones dharmic duty? What are the boundaries of concern? Is not this very space abused by those who would rather we be selfish and concern ourselves with just ours? Settlements come from here don’t they! Is not the burdening and bereavment- a strategy to bring us to this space and nudge us towards not caring, a big check works for me why care for what is needed for everyone…..a not wanting to protect and unknown family in a similar plight as mine?

Is not boundaries a fluid, dynamic discernment of what feels right to do, as opposed to here is a line, this is mine, this is yours, “don’t mess with my so and so, she is my bitch, my whore”, “this is my land, step off it”.

Discernment is grinding inside me between pain of seeing my parents being abused and the identity perhaps even an ambition of making the world better. Can my small world be better in a broken destroyed world? Is that possible?

The natural cycles of earth don’t choose a pincode to shine or rain on. Then why has society become pieces of plots, with each of us minding our own business when the business of what is going on out there spills inside our windows, knocks on our doors, nails notices on our streets.

Discernment and selfishness, can you tell the difference? I am learning to in the fire of this ordeal.

What is mine to protect, what is mine to let be destroyed?!

What are the limits of being a protector of love, when that is ALL there is.
