To date I have built 7 relationships of depth..
…in the US. They all chose to abandon me (in the name of boundaries, when it was really their emotional fragility).
They span people from Midwestern America, Brazilian, Asian, black mixed, African American and Latinx ancestries. Some are republicans and some are democrats. Some are wealthy and some are month to month.
Fragility is the result of broken family systems in the ‘developed world’. It is not a white phenomenon. It is an American phenomenon and it has spread just like friends (the sitcom) has all over the world.
The gravest symptom of colonization is the breakdown of family systems and therefore social and interpersonal well-being.
A family system gives the first sense of two things:
1) Am I safe in the world?
2) Do I feel accepted for exactly who I am. ie Do I belong?
A healthy family system gives a child the embodied experience of safety and deep connection. An unhealthy family system gives a child the memory of fear and disconnection.
